It has been closedIt is said that the eyes of the dead are closed out of respect for their souls. I imagine those eyes, the prominent 'windows to the soul', as both alive and dead. My family has recently had to close two pairs of eyes forever and set two corpses into the stone. No longer will their eyes crinkle in glee, slide lazily shut for a midday nap, or shed tears in grief. Both pairs of eyes have seen so much and were robbed of taking in many hours of new life. My only consolation is that those eyes are sparkling beautifully, somewhere above us, keeping a careful watch on their descendants.Requiescat In PaceElizabeth Anne Biedny nee Bartkow
